The right place for a carrot

Udon was given a quarter of a carrot and I had simply left it on her cage's floor. After a while, I found the carrot in Udon's food bowl!

So I had decided to try again by putting the carrot far away from the bowl (at her sleeping area) and she tried moving the carrot to the correct place!

Udon really had lots of energy to lift this heavy (to her) carrot!

Please give Udon a round of applause for being a ORGANISED HAMSTER!

Let me out!!!!!!

Udon bites her cage to attract attention whenever she wants to come out of the cage to play. She can persist biting the cage for very long period of time. Due to the uploading size limit, I can only make a lesser than a minute clip of her biting the cage.

She will only stop biting after someone opened the door to free her.

The most probable way for Udon to escape

Udon had escaped twice over the weekend. I think she knows how to leave the cage.

The escapee

This happens when I leave the door unlocked.

Conclusion: Ensure that the door is well-secure before leaving the cage unattended.

Caught in an escape.

This morning, I saw a little beige thing running into my bed room after washing up. And its was Udon!. My shout out to Udon had woken my hubby. I quickly picked her and return her into her cage.

I noticed that I had not secured the cage door properly and this had allowed Udon to escape. We are lucky that we could find her so quickly. I was more worried that she might fall into the hidden drainage hole in the kitchen and drinking the residue of detergent water that I had drained in my common bathroom.

Udon is fine and healthy till now.

Gifts from Angela

On some occasions, Udon's current water bottle could not dipense water for Udon. I have to check every morning and night to ensure the water do come out.

Angela had a spare cute Hamtaro water bottle. As her current hamster setup could not install this water bottle, she gave it to me.

She also gave Udon some bird seeds and Yoghurt drops.

Thanks Angela for being so nice and generous to Udon!

Interesting food actions

Udon's has been doing something that she does not usually do these days.

After new food was topped up in her food bowl, she would go over, stuff all into her cheek pouch and kept it that way when she run around until our bedtime. She will them either put the food back into her food bowl and place in her hiding place below the running wheel.

Also I realised that Udon can sort her food! She will arrange her favourite ab seton pellets to one side of the food bowl.

Stuffing food in progress......

Stuffing completed. Looking out. I'm ready to leave!

Can you let me out? I want to run away from home!

Bite somemore to attract more attention! And I'm free!!!!!

Udon weighs 93g

I bought a digital kitchen weighing scale from Giant Tampines yesterday.

So I tried weighing Udon today. Its not easy because Udon kept moving and the digits kept fluctuating.

But I still managed to weigh her. This cream banded syrian weighs 93g!

It has been a month!

Its 13 April today! Which means that Udon has been a month with us liao. She is going to be 2 months old in 3 days time.

Udon was very tiny when she 1st came to our home. There was still a lot of space for her in the food bowl.

Now Udon has grown a lot bigger! There is not much space for her to move around inside the food bowl.

Udon is not a greedy hamster and seldom takaway food. She will normally go to her food bowl to have her meal.

However, she is a active and playful hamster. She would normally wake up slightly after our dinner time, have her own food, drink some water, go to toilet to pee and lastly groom herself. After these routine stuff, she would standby near the cage door to wait for me to let her out to play. I would either leave her in the hamster ball or freely roam if I'm in the study. There are occasional breaks for her whereby I bring her back to her cage and let her have some food, water and private business. Udon is a well behave hamster and does not pee and poo when she is outside. She will standby at the door again once she is done.

Udon will start biting the cage if she gets impatient and I'm not around to open the door. Even the her playtime has ended, she will bite for very long until she realise that thats all for today.

I will try my very best to give Udon a very happy life.

Shopping at Serangoon North again

Since my hubby and my last 1st exploration at Serangoon North 2 weeks ago, we went down today again.

Main objective: To buy a bigger hamster running ball for Udon.

Side objective: To search for bath sand recommended by SHC forum members.

Udon currently uses a small hamster ball for dwarf hamsters. I borrowed it from my bro who owns 2 lovely campbells. This ball was ok to use when Udon was small. As Udon is so much bigger now, it is due for an upgrade of the ball.

Went to Pet Safari @ Vivo yesterday to look at the ball for Syrian but did not buy in the end because it was too expensive! Compared a few pricing of hamster balls from different shop and decided to buy from Pets Mart. This ball is 17 cm in diameter and shop owners recommended it for syrians.

Although, currently using Marukan sand, I want to racky around the bath sand available for hammys. I could only find Slui Chinchilla and Que Feng sand which were recommended by forum members. I bought a big pack of Que Feng sand in the end since I could see their sand is available anyway.

New hamster mix

I will be 1 month in 2 days time since brought Udon home. I have been feeding Udon Marukan orange pack (MR-116) hamster mix. Udon has no problem with the current mix.

I visited the Pet Safari in Vivocity today and saw this Vitakraft Emotion Beauty hamster mix. It has omega 6 beauty complex and helps to shiny fur, good health and teeth for hamster. It sound like good food to make hammies beautiful. Although it was expensive to buy in Pet Safari, I decided to buy a pack to let Udon try.

Planning to mix it with Udon's current Marukan food. Hope that Udon likes it!

The accidental escapist

As usual, I will let Udon out to play. Either freely in my study (where there are on hiding area or inside a hamster ball running around my house.

I decided to let it run inside the ball yesterday. The ball knocking onto furniture and wall can be heard whenever Udon ran in the ball.

However I couldn't heard it banging a while, so I went to take a look. The ball was left with the cover opened!!!!

Udon had came out of the ball!!!! I looked around the kitchen and I could not find it. Asked my hubby to help and he found it immidiately! Udon was resting under our sofa!!!

We were very lucky to find Udon fast. The cover of the ball must have been loosen by the knockings. I was very worried when I couldn't see Udon in the ball. Next time I have to be more alert when Udon runs in the ball.

Today, I let Udon run around our messy computer desk. Had to be extra careful not to let it go to the cables, otherwise I would get fried Udon!

Nesting material from Fu Han

My colleague Fu Han, the syrian hamster owner of Ruby gave me some hamster nesting material. It comes in strips clump together. The hamster would usually try to open up and make it as its nesting bedding.

I had placed some strips for Udon to try. It seems like it cannot be bothered.
